Updated: 1 day ago

Program to Begin Coursework in 2026, Pending Accreditation Approval

Aaniiih Nakoda College is proud to announce its plan to introduce a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS), with coursework slated to begin in 2026. This innovative program, pending approval by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, aims to meet the growing demand for technology professionals while fostering local workforce development and STEM opportunities for students in the Fort Belknap Indian Community.

The CIS program will be developed as part of ANC’s Institutional Capacity Excellence in TCUP Institutions (ICE-TI) initiative, a project designed to enhance STEM education and outcomes at the college. Through this initiative, ANC will deliver a student-centered curriculum that builds on the success of its existing Associate of Science degree in CIS and its first STEM bachelor’s program in Aaniiih Nakoda Ecology.

This new program represents a significant milestone for ANC and our commitment to expanding STEM opportunities for students. It is designed to equip students with the skills they need to excel in high-demand technology careers while supporting the operational needs of tribal governments and other local organizations.

Program Highlights

  • Development and Delivery: The first two years of the ICE-TI project will focus on creating the curriculum, securing necessary approvals, and establishing program infrastructure.

  • Community Impact: The program aligns with Fort Belknap Indian Community priorities, supporting the development of a local technology workforce.

  • Student-Centered Outcomes: The program aims to increase STEM enrollment, improve retention and graduation rates, and prepare students for high-wage careers in computer and information technology fields.

  • Continuous Improvement: Ongoing assessment and external evaluation will ensure the program evolves to meet the needs of students and the community.

The new CIS bachelor’s program will provide a pathway for ANC students to pursue rewarding careers in technology. ANC expects its first cohort of CIS bachelor’s degree graduates in the spring of 2028!
